A Caughman
Family of South Carolina
The Caughmans are of German extraction. Arriving
in Lexington county, S.C. in the 1700's, they settled in the Big Hollow Creek area of Cedar
Grove Lutheran Church (see Drafts family) and toward Wise's Ferry on the Saluda River (now
under Lake Murray). Their immigrant ancestor is HERE.
The name is widespread in the central area of
South Carolina and especially in Lexington County.
My wife's paternal grandmother (HERE) was a Caughman. A
lot of information on this family is in the local history room of the main branch of the
Lexington County Public Library.
