The apostle Paul writing (God speaking via scripture...The
Word), admonishing the apostle Peter that following the "Law" (rules and commands of the
Bible) does not justify salvation.
Wycliffe Bible of 1384: knowen that a man is not iustified of the werkis of lawe,
but bi the feith of Jhesu Crist; and we bileuen in Jhesu Crist, that we ben iustified of the feith
of Crist, and not of the werkis of lawe. Wherfor of the werkis of lawe ech fleisch schal not be
iustified.
King James Bible of 1611:
"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus
Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of
Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be
justified."
NAS Bible of 1960: "nevertheless
knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ
Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ
and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be
justified."
NIV Bible 1973-78: "know that a
man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put
our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing
the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified."
