Another Special Life in Christ
These testimony lives are not stories of "role models". Jesus is the
role model!
These are lives wonderfully touched & changed by Jesus!
Ron Dunn (1936-2001):
On 24 March 2002, Ron was mentioned in our Pastor
Steve Cloud's sermon about the problem of pain and suffering. Steve called Ron Dunn the most
gifted Bible teacher that Steve had ever studied under and how so many lives had been
positively affected by Ron Dunn. Ron & Kaye came home after a trip in 1975; and they
immediately discovered a note from their eldest son, Ron's namesake, reading something like
this: "Dear Mom & Dad, I love you both with all of my heart. But I don't want to live
this life anymore. After you read this, don't go into the bathroom...just call
911."
Ron was born in 1937, saved at the age of 9, began
preaching at 15, and pastored his first church at age 17. After college and Master of
Divinity and several other pastorates, he became pastor of MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church in
Irving, Texas in 1966. In 1975, he resigned to a full-time devotion to an itinerate ministry
of Bible teaching and writing which took him around the world.
Some time after his son's death, Steve heard Ron
(as a Jesus follower) say, "I've been all of the way to the bottom, and I can tell you that
the bottom is solid and everything that I've taught from this book (holding up his Bible) is
true!" His wife, Kaye has the following posted on the web site:
A SINGLE LIFE
In looking
back over the past nine months since Ron's death in 29 June
2001, I have been amazed with the literally hundreds of notes, emails, phone calls, cards and
letters I have received from people telling me of the impact he made on their lives in some
way.
This was the man I loved so much whose heart's
desire was to finish well for God. Yes, he had a tremendous gift of preaching, but it was not
eloquent preaching that reached people's hearts....it was seeing a fellow-struggler facing
the challenges of life and being honest in his search for answers along the journey. People
could identify with his openness about the difficult times.
Ron battled some debilitating years of depression
following the death of our teenage son in 1975, and I must admit that I thought it would end
his ministry because it was such a struggle to preach. He grappled with his thoughts, his
words got twisted and some of his messages seemed to be such "downers" to me. He also walked
through the minefield of having three Bipolar (manic depressive) children which took a real
toll at times. But we found out over time that these very messages and times of great
depression were used of God to encourage others.
Amazing!! If he could go on, then they could
go on. No matter what direction his message would take, it would ultimately point them to God
as the only answer, no matter what the question.
I marvel at what God can do with one single life.
I know that God has a plan for my life without Ron although it still seems unfathomable to me
at this point . I thank God for his ministry to my life.
